Interview with Brigitte Wunderli:
How long have you been making glass beads and how did you get started?
I have been making glass beads since 2009. I took a course using canister burners and almost gave up on it. By the second day of the course, I started to enjoy it, and shortly thereafter I bought a two-gas burner.
What did you find most difficult to learn?
Heat control, constantly turning with the left hand and winding the glass with the right. At the beginning, the glass always "dripped off."
Also, how to handle silver glass, what it takes to coax out those great colors.
Who is your role model?
There are several artists who impress me with their special techniques. For silver glass, it’s Angela Meier, and since I’m a huge animal fan, I find the animal beads by Joy Munshower spectacular. But there are so many other great artists...
Where do you get your inspiration?
From Pinterest and my collection of bead books and magazines. Over the years, I have also repeatedly purchased online courses and worked with them.
What are your goals?
Making glass beads calms me. I keep trying out new techniques and am happy when something turns out well.
Currently, however, I mainly make courage beads; I particularly enjoy making these beads.
What are you taking away from this challenge? What did you like about it?
I liked the colors of the challenge, but I did miss white and black; that would have provided a bit more variety. As it is, the colors are very similar.
