Prometheus® Bronze Clay

We are pleased to introduce the new generation of Bronze Clay, which can be fired quickly and at low temperatures: Prometheus® Bronze Clay.

Prometheus® Bronze Clay is an extraordinary medium that will transform your imagination into art and jewelry pieces made of solid bronze. You can easily shape your clay by hand or with simple tools, or even throw it on a potter's wheel. Firing Prometheus® Bronze Clay is easier than ever before, requiring only 30 minutes at 820 °C.

Prometheus® Bronze Clay

  • can be stored at room temperature
  • does not stick to hands at normal consistency
  • allows for long working times due to its slow-drying nature
  • does not require long firing times
  • does not require high firing temperatures
  • does not require a firing pan or activated carbon
  • does not require a large or programmable kiln

1. Conventional Method (*)

Place the dried piece (or pieces) on a stainless steel mesh and place it in the kiln preheated to 820 °C/1500 °F.* (**) Wait until the kiln has returned to its target temperature; from then on, the firing process takes 30 minutes.

When the firing process is finished, remove the piece, place it on a heat-resistant surface, and wait for it to cool down, or even better, quench it in water while it is still hot. (***) Most of the scale will flake off the piece. If any scale remains, place the piece in pickle solution for a while.

(*) This method is especially recommended for large pieces, sculptures, etc.

(**) Most kilns are slightly cooler near the door; place your piece in the back area of the firing chamber.
(***) Beware of hot water vapors.

2. Activated Carbon Method

This is a 2-stage method.

Stage 1: Place the dried piece (or pieces) on a stainless steel mesh and place it in the kiln preheated to 500 °C/932 °F, or on a kitchen stove. Fire it for 10 minutes, place it on a fireproof surface, and let it cool down.

Stage 2: Add approx. 3 cm of activated carbon to the bottom of a stainless steel container. Place the pieces with at least 1.5 cm of space between them, fill the container with activated carbon, close it, and place it in the kiln preheated to 820 °C / 1500 °F. Wait until the kiln has returned to its target temperature; from then on, the firing process takes 60 minutes. When the firing process is finished, either leave the container in the kiln to cool down, or carefully remove it and place it on a heat-resistant surface until it is cold enough to remove the pieces. Another possible firing program would be at 820 °C / 1500 °F for 2 hours; this is preferable if PBC® is combined with PCC®.

3. Torch Method

Place the dried piece on a stainless steel mesh. Place the mesh on a mineral fiber brick or a thick brick. Fire the piece evenly to an orange-red color for 5-10 minutes, depending on the size of the piece. Avoid melting the piece. After the firing is complete, either let it cool down or quench it in water. Place the piece in hot Picklean® solution to remove any scale, should any be present.

Product care & materials

What materials do you use?

We use a wide variety of materials – including 925 sterling silver, stainless steel and surgical steel, nickel-free silver-plated and gold-plated metals, genuine minerals, glass, and many other materials for jewelry making.

In our own workshop, we also handcraft glass beads that we use for individual jewelry pieces and accessories.

What's the best way to care for my jewelry?

Keep your jewelry as dry as possible and preferably store pieces individually. Avoid direct contact with perfume, cosmetics, and cleaning agents. If necessary, clean your jewelry gently with a soft cloth. This will help maintain its color, shine, and beauty for as long as possible.

Can I wear my jewelry while showering or exercising?

We recommend removing jewelry before showering, swimming, or exercising – moisture, chlorine, and sweat can damage some materials.
